Amendment 7: In suits of common law, where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars, the right of trial by jury shall be preserved, and no fact tried by a jury, shall be otherwise re-examined in any court of the United States, than according to the rules of the common law.
Lesson 8: Tried is a past participle and, as a participle (verbal adjective), it modifies a noun, noun phrase, or noun substitute (cf. Amendment 1 for additional information about participles). One tries to form it to the curvature of an obtuse angle, which is something I haven't learned to do on my computer. 
Apologia pro descriptione mea: The expression otherwise than can be understood to mean "in a way that is not." Since this that is a relative pronoun, this than can be considered a relative adverb. The three x's stand for an expression like it be re-examined.
